Accor Opens 1100th Hotel in APAC

Largest hotel group in Asia Pacific continues its expansion.

With the opening of Sofitel Beijing Central, Accor opened its 1100th hotel in Asia Pacific. The milestone was reached in June 2019.

Accor is the largest hotel group within Asia Pacific with 38 brands within its portfolio. The company is heavily focussed on expansion within the luxury and lifestyle sectors. Within Asia Pacific they now have 320 hotels in the luxury and premium segment.

Sofitel Beijing Central is a 345-room hotel in the heart of Beijing’s diplomatic area. It is the Sofitel Brand’s 23rd hotel in China. Its design is described as a marriage between modern French art de vivre (a signature of the Sofitel brand) with Beijing’s resplendent imperial history, rich culture and storied traditions.

“We have had a record six months since announcing our 1,000 th hotel with the Pullman Tokyo Tamachi late last year and it’s incredible to think that we have added another 100 hotels already since then,” said Michael Issenberg, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Accor Asia Pacific. “Sofitel Beijing Central will be a great addition to our network in China and will become one of the premier luxury hotels in the city.”

Accor opened 128 hotels in the Asia Pacific region last year, equivalent to one every three days. Globally, the group opens a new hotel every three hours on average. Accor are located in 100 countries and have had a busy year with a number of acquisitions.

The Accor group (formally known as AccorHotels) acquired Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in 2018. Mövenpick in Colombo is currently the group’s only hotel in Sri Lanka.
