Last year, Marriott International opened nearly 500 properties featuring more than 80,000 rooms. In addition, the company signed management and franchise agreements for 816 properties with 125,000 rooms, taking the company to a record number of organic room signings.
Within their luxury portfolio alone, the company signed 29 properties with 6,200 rooms across six brands. These include The Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai Hongquiao, and a St. Regis in Dubai.
As at 31 December 2018, Marriott International’s global footprint reached over 1.3 million rooms across 6,900 properties over 130 countries and territories.
Marriott International’s first Sheraton in Sri Lanka is due to open in Colombo in the first half of 2019. A second Sheraton will open in Kosgoda in the second half.
