Year to date tourism arrivals crossed the 2 million mark in November. The total number of international tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in November was 195,582, up 16.8% from a year earlier.
The top three source markets continue to be India, UK and China. 20% of arrivals came from India, with numbers increasing 21% from November 2017 levels to a total of 39,137.
Visitors from the UK grew a massive 61% to 21,971 tourists, overtaking the Chinese market which fell 1.8% to 18,888 tourists. Visitor numbers from the UK were likely boosted by the so-called Barmy Army – supporters of the England cricket team.
The year to date tourist arrivals up to 30th November exceeded the 2 million mark at 2.08 million, a growth of 11.2% on the same period year.
Annual tourist arrivals for 2018 are on track to surpass 2.3 million tourists if December arrivals meet 2017 levels.
