First-of-its-kind underwater residence, THE MURAKA, opens in Maldives

The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort opened the first underwater hotel residence, THE MURAKA, in the Maldives. A Director at Crown Company and Chief Architect/Designer of the residence Ahmed Saleem described the completion of THE MURAKA as “a personal lifetime achievement”.

The villa spans two storeys above and below the Indian Ocean, with the master bedroom 16ft below the surface. The lower floor hosts a purposely designed bedroom, living space and bathroom, while the upper floor is an integrated living, dining, entertaining and sleeping space. ‘Muraka’ means coral in the native language of Dhivehi.

Guests who stay will enjoy hyper-personalisation and attention to detail, including expertly crafted experiences.
The Conrad Maldives Rangali Resort has been undergoing enhancements including an $8.3 million redevelopment of  its 42 deluxe beach villas. Designed by MURAKA’s design collaborator Yuji Yamazake, the villas now feature a Japanese-inspired garden with outdoor seating and understated interiors.
